The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) today announced Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CEA, will deliver the opening keynote address at the [ta]Electronic House Expo[/tag] Spring 2006 (EHX). EHX Spring 2006 runs March 28 - April 1, 2006, in Orlando, Fl.

EHX is the fastest growing trade event serving the $16 billion custom electronics industry, and the spring show - already more than 20 percent bigger than last year - is projected to be the largest in show history.

The Northern Sound & Vision show is happening in Manchester this weekend. It’s the biggest consumer hi-fi show in the UK outside of London with over 220 brands on show over two days at the Radison SAS Hotel on 28 and 29 January. So when you have the time and you are in the UK and got nothing to do today, have fun and see what’s all new in the market.

The show’s been going since 1999 and covers a whole range of kit including home cinema, mid and high-end audio, in-car, custom install, multi-room, accessories and PC software.

The dates of the upcoming IFA, the world’s leading consumer electronics event, are 1 to 6 September 2006, the customary start to the CE retail trade season.

Following a year of growth, Kaleidescape, a provider of entertainment servers, announced the further expansion of its European presence. For this Kaleidescape Europe Limited - a wholly-owned subsidiary company - started. Also new relationships with key distributors in the region were announced.

According to the European Information Technology Observatory, the European consumer electronics market is growing dramatically, with a new max of 54.2 billion Euros in 2005. To capitalize on this strong growth, Kaleidescape created a dedicated subsidiary headquartered in London. The subsidiary will act as the European headquarters for the company, providing sales and support resources for the region.

Additionally, Kaleidescape has added new distributors on the continent including Audio Video Generation in France, Image Vertriebs GmbH in Germany and Tower Systems in Italy. These companies join Kaleidescape’s current distributor in Switzerland, Genesis Technologies, and further strengthen the company’s European operations.

KEF’s new Custom Installation Series flagship model Ci9000ACE brings the company’s patented ACE technology to in-wall speaker systems.

Utilizing 165 mm MF and 19mm HF drivers mounted in a Uni-Q array and two 165 mm LF units in a sealed enclosure, the Ci9000ACE provides outstanding sound quality, with notably extended frequency response from the LF units, thanks to ACE technology. KEF has announced the the new Ci3-80QT to the brand’s Custom Installation Series line-up. Available from December 2005.

The Ci3-80QT is an exceptionally quiet motorised 3-way, 4-driver system, incorporating KEF’s 75 mm acclaimed Uni-Q(R) drive-unit array along with two 75 mm LF units in a sealed enclosure. Media servers were popular last week at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

Media server are computers with a lot of storage that are connected to a home network so consumers can gather movies, music, and pictures in one place and play them back on any machine connected to the network. Unlike Media Center systems with photo, music, and DVR capabilities, these systems only store DVD content for playback through a home theater, although music support is expected later in 2006.

Kaleidescape of Mountain View was showing off a mother of a media server at CES. This Kaleidescape has 5.5 terabytes of storage on 12 disk drives. That’s enough to store 7,500 CDs or 825 DVDs.

Nothing does wireless music as simply or as elegantly as the Sonos Digital Music System. This system has the potential to change the way you listen to your music, capable of expanding into a multi-room audio setup.

Every Sonos system consists of two main elements – the Zone Player and the Zone Controller.
The Zone Player is where all the technical action is and the original ZP100 model is an grey/white box with a built-in digital amplifier.
The, hospital-white ZP80 adds some flexibility to the range. First, it’s considerably smaller thanks to the absence of that digital amp. Second, it’s been designed instead to be used with an external amplifier (via analogue or digital outputs).
