High Tech Home Magazine

Just stumbeled on a new European website that

“explains the features of a Smart-Home in plain English”

smarthome High Tech Home Magazine

This is a great website because there aren’t enough online resources for the domotics or home-automation industry and especially aimed at consumers. (most resources are trade type ones like hiddenwires etc).

….except of course for this weblog ;-)

Feel free to check it out, it even has RSS and a forum.

New installers weblog on the block

Posted on February 18th, 2006 in Custom install, installing, whole-house video by Erno, (Visited 9210 times)

ipronto1 New installers weblog on the block
There is a new installers weblog on the blog. The guys (and girls?) at Couture Digital started a weblog just a few days ago. This is a great idea. In my opinion you can attract new customers by showing how you work in your projects. Also it gives the client the possiblity to show the progress at their projects to friends and family.

David Hills was kind enough to inform me with an email:

“I thought I’d let you know that I’ve finally got around to sorting out our blog.

http://blog.couturedigital.com

We’re about to start work on a large-ish renovation project so I’m going to keep it updated with text and photo’s from now on.”

Also he wrote:

“Keep up the good work mate, I check your blog every day now!”

Concentrating on residential projects for me

Posted on February 6th, 2006 in Crestron, ISE, installing, whole-house video by Erno, (Visited 9495 times)

articlespic20060206-02-02 Concentrating on residential projects for meThere can be little doubt that the residential install market is set to grow significantly over the coming years. Up until now, custom install and home automation has been almost exclusively concerned with the high-end of the residential market - but that is changing. Property developers, house builders and forward thinking home-owners are all waking up to the benefits of what might be called the ‘digital lifestyle‘. In fact, the market is expanding on all fronts - from the consumer looking for a simple ‘out-of-the-box’ home cinema system to the well-heeled businessperson realising their dream of a completely automated home.

For those bold and willing enough to make the commitment, the residential market also represents a great opportunity for the commercial installer. However, simply applying commercial market expertise to the residential arena will not be enough to guarantee success. Selling into the residential market requires a change of emphasis and approach in order to reap maximum reward.
Erno: “This is where the niche is for the installers, the large commercial installers will need some time to switch, or maybe they may never will.

Gefen’s all-fiber DVI and HDMI cables for shielded HD Video Play

Posted on February 1st, 2006 in Gefen, ISE, Shows, whole-house video by Erno, (Visited 6548 times)

hdtvextreme3 Gefens all-fiber DVI and HDMI cables for shielded HD Video Play
In heavily populated electronics environments, most HD devices are subject to electromagnetic interference (EMI) that can corrupt data and slow down information processing–hardly ideal for cutting-edge industrial, government and medical industries, but also affecting even the humble office or studio.

Gefen’s new DVI and HDMI All-Fiber cables solve the problem by supplying all-fiber components bundled in a durable cable that protects data during its travels from source to HD display, resulting in brilliant, uncorrupted imagery on the receiving end, even when extended hundreds of feet in length.

Your DVDs in all your rooms,

Posted on January 10th, 2006 in CES2006, Media Servers, whole-house video by Erno, (Visited 6681 times)

Kaleidescape-Experience Your DVDs in all your rooms, Media servers were popular last week at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

Media server are computers with a lot of storage that are connected to a home network so consumers can gather movies, music, and pictures in one place and play them back on any machine connected to the network. Unlike Media Center systems with photo, music, and DVR capabilities, these systems only store DVD content for playback through a home theater, although music support is expected later in 2006.

Kaleidescape of Mountain View was showing off a mother of a media server at CES. This Kaleidescape has 5.5 terabytes of storage on 12 disk drives. That’s enough to store 7,500 CDs or 825 DVDs.
